This course aim to provide broad, systematic, and multidisciplinary awareness for students by covering railway management and operations activities, from fundamentals of railway industry to today’s Ethiopian railway industry operation context. Attention will be given on introducing railway industry, modern railway stations layouts and operations, and best practices, Operationally based railway planning, demand based railway planning, cost estimations in railway operation, freight transportation, passenger transportation and today’s Ethiopian railway operation panning and management practices.

Areas addressed include the management of complexity, marketing, freight and passenger train services, railway capacity and performance management, railway demand forecasting, railway operation economics, service quality and the trend of Ethiopian’s railway operation planning and management.

Additionally, students will be introduced to basic analysis and analytical tools in rail operations such as demand and performance analysis software’s will be dealt.
