The course will address the basics of tunnel engineering from the definition, construction/excavation to the final monitoring stages. Tunnel inputs parameters, constraints, geotechnical investigation techniques, rock mechanics concepts and stress analysis, soft and hard rock tunneling techniques, tunnel support types and their design, software applications for modeling and analysis of tunnels will be the integral part of the module. In addition, practical projects and designs with field visits are also part of the module.
