Railway geometry (line) is the foundation of everything. The type of structures, economy of the line and all operational parameters are depend on the route selected and geometrical specification of the alignment. The first phase of geometrical design is the detail study of project development principles and technical standards. Study of the principles of railroad location, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and operations with emphasis on railway facilities and special track works such as switches, turnouts, crossings and transition sections will be the core concept of this module. Specifically, the course will discuss the design of railway geometry in totality and design basic railway facilities i.e. special track works (stations, switches and crossings) with respect to layout design and optimizations. Finally, the crucial operation and sustainability issues of railway lines will be discussed; inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation. |
